Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

The Basic and Transitional Studies Tutoring Program at Seattle Central Community College typically serves 100 or more students at any given time and has an ongoing need for committed tutors. To be considered for involvement with the Basic Studies Tutoring Program we ask that you:

  1. Read through the website to orient yourself to the program.
  2. Download and fill out the application form. Once you have filled out the form, please email it to the tutoring program coordinator (jgibson@sccd.ctc.edu). (You can also print out the form and mail it to our address at the bottom of the site.)
  3. Come in for a short interview (we will call you to schedule it).
  4. Attend a volunteer training session.

As a literacy tutor, you will be working with a vulnerable population. According to state law, the Basic Studies Tutoring Program is liable for allegations of abuse against learners. Therefore, you will be asked to complete a Washington State Patrol background check during your interview.

Please return the application form as soon as possible to allow us enough time to schedule an interview and reserve your spot in upcoming training sessions. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
